Book of Kells

In Light Sonata, Rupert begins a surreal journey when he, like Charlie, experiences deep beauty—this time, when he sees an illuminated manuscript of Genesis.

His mind traces the intricate latticework surrounding the words of Genesis, which is full of repetitions and variations (see Beauty and the Blue Crab). The words end with God’s command for the very beginning of all creation, “Let there be light,“ the very thing Rupert struggles with to play the piano.

The presentation above is about the real-life Book of Kells, related to the fictitious Page of Iona in Light Sonata.
